Staten Island Yankees Will Host Game Of Thrones Night
Staten Island – With the “Game of Thrones” season finale airing on Sunday night , the timing is perfect for the Staten Island Yankees to announce a night themed around Westeros and author George R.R. Martin. That’s right, the Yankees will wear Direwolves uniforms, while the opposing Hudson Valley Renegades will don Lannister-themed threads. Martin will be in attendance, but he won’t throw the first pitch — he told Staten Island Yankees’ marketing director Mike Holley (via the Daily News) he didn’t want to be all over the Internet like 50 Cent. Holley also added his inspiration was Martin using Staten Island as “King’s Landing” because of his view of the borough from Bayonne.
I LOVE minor league baseball. If you haven’t been to a minor league game you should really check one out. The players are younger than you, not that good and the beer is cheap. Outside the NY metro area almost every team has a $1 beer night that will get real trashy, so if you have the chance, dive right in.
Another great part about minor league baseball is the stupid uniforms that players are forced to wear in order to sell tickets to pay their miniscule salaries. We always hear about the huge salaries that big leaguers are making but rarely talked about it the guy making $10,000 for the season and forced to live on Staten Island while dressed like an idiot. Yeah everyone loves Game Of Thrones and from the outside these look pretty cool, but that feeling has to be a bit different, if you are trying to justify to everyone back home that chasing your dream is a good idea, while dressed like a dragon.
The only thing better than seeing minor leaguers dressed like this, it when an MLB player is passing through town on a rehab stint and has to wear a jersey with a hot dog on it.
